Calm Under the Waves
This painting is based on Fiona Apple's song Sullen Girl. The song is about Fiona's experience of rape. I tried to paint the girl and the atmosphere of the song. I also indentified with the song a lot. The girl in the picture isn't me but the wounds she has are wounds I had too.
SULLEN GIRL
Words & Music: Fiona Apple
Days like this, I don't know what to do with myself
All day -- and all night
I wander the halls along the walls and under my breath
I say to myself
I need fuel -- to take flight --
And there's too much going on
But it's calm under the waves, in the blue of my oblivion
Under the waves in the blue of my oblivion
Is that why they call me a sullen girl -- sullen girl
They don't know I used to sail the deep and tranquil sea
But he washed me shore and he took my pearl --
And left an empty shell of me
And there's too much going on
But it's calm under the waves, in the blue of my oblivion
Under the waves in the blue of my oblivion
Under the waves in the blue of my oblivion
It's calm under the waves in the blue of my oblivion

Just a Little Girl
This picture describes my feelings when I was sick and alone and suffered from traumas. It seemed that everything had gone wrong, I was hurt and abandoned although I had good intentions. The darkness and the smallness of the girl symbolize fears, dangers and loneliness. The heart still goes for love and hope, the situation isn't completely hopeless.

I like butterflies a lot. They remind of beauty, joy and other good things in life.

Tori
I admire Tori Amos both as a musician and a survivor. Her music has helped me a lot in surviving. She has a song for every situation
